Many workers in the United States are sadly unaware of their rights as employees.
For example, did you know that you are fully entitled to overtime pay past 40 hours, a one-hour meal break for every 8-hour shift, and maternity and paternity leave? If you didn’t know these things, you’re not alone.
Additionally, many adults will spend years toiling at their companies blissfully unaware of the fact that your employer has a legal obligation to pay you by throwing your salary at you in one- and five-dollar increments as you dance around to Def Leppard. However, there is a catch: you have to ask for it.
Many employees opt to receive a paper check every two weeks. Others choose Direct Deposit, a convenient alternative that puts your money directly into your bank account.
But according to the most recent census taken by the Employees Rights Organization (ERO), a mere 0.5% of American workers receive their hard-earned money by having their boss dim the lights and shout “ow owwwwww” as George Washingtons rain down from the sky.
So whether you work for a finance institution, an insurance company, or a public middle school, you should know your rights. Please send in pictures of you making it rain at your job to inspire others!
