Tonight’s Primetime Emmy Awards are already proving to be a star-studded affair. But no part of the evening is more anticipated than the special performance from the O.J. Simpson, who became the year’s breakout star by inspiring a TV mini-series and a documentary based on his famous 1994 murder case.
“I can’t believe we got O.J.,” said host Jimmy Kimmel. “Or, rather, I can’t believe we got the Nevada Department of Corrections to release him for the night so he could come here.”
The precise nature of Simpson’s performance will be a surprise, but fans are already speculating that it could involve singing, dancing, and various felonies. Whatever it is, sources say, it’s going to be classic O.J.
“Wow. The man himself,” said actor Cuba Gooding Jr., who is nominated in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his portrayal of Simpson in The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. “I owe that guy everything.”
