Following the well-documented downfall and ultimate cancellation of their latest HBO show Vinyl, Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter have decided to double down on their formula of featuring overhead shots powerful men snorting lines of coke and looking euphorically up at the ceiling for their next HBO project.
“We now realize the failure of Vinyl wasn’t due to its excessive, obnoxious, and largely-unrealistic use of drugs, but just the opposite,” said Scorsese in a recent interview. “Using valuable lessons from our experience on Vinyl, we’ve decided to boil our next show down to the essentials: overhead shots of white guys doing coke and looking up into the camera.”
The half-hour project – tentatively titled Cocaine Ceiling – is set to to debut on HBO next fall, amidst a lineup that will presumably include Danny McBride yelling, Sarah Jessica Parker trying to get her shit together, a bunch of rich bros straight-up broin’, and a super expensive, high-concept show that kind of misses the mark. The project will mark the fourth time Scorsese has heavily featured important, high-strung men snorting coke and looking up at the camera, following Goodfellas, The Wolf of Wall Street and Vinyl.
“We’re really excited to be bringing our audience exactly what they want, and absolutely nothing more,” said Scorsese, who noted that while every scene will, indeed, feature coke, audiences can also expect excessive background nudity and “Gimme Shelter”
