Is this the long promised pivot?
Media fact checkers analyzing Donald Trump’s most recent speech surprisingly found a pair of facts buried deep inside the 45-minute collection of allegations, innuendo and conspiracy theories. The findings bolster the suggestion that Trump is finally “pivoting” to a more general election-friendly persona.
“The old Trump wouldn’t have allowed something like a fact to take speaking time away from baseless assertions and nativist dog-whistling,” said one political analyst. “The presence of a fact or two shows that Trump’s newest campaign shakeup is having an effect.”
The two facts in Trump’s speech were that President Obama was inaugurated in 2008 and that the population of the United States has increased since the 1990s.
